At-Home Experiences
Like all carers, we provide the basics: the day to day stuff that keeps the world turning. This means things like showering, cooking, helping with simple household tasks. However, we believe that even these simple tasks can be done with creativity and imagination through a thorough understanding of the client.
All of our services start with a discovery session.
Our discovery session with a client and family members is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other. Spending unhurried quality time is critical to setting us all up for success.
Here are a few things we might might do as part of our at-home experiences:
Discovering what works for each client is our sweet spot and is what personally brings us the most joy. Based on a deep understanding of each client, we’re able to develop enriching and fulfilling at-home programs.
Food
A nourishing diet is critically important for body and soul and lies right at the heart of the ethos of Mojo Care. Preparing food together can be a wonderful and joyful way to engage minds and revive skills. A great tool to help with this is the resurrection of a gem of a cookery book from yesteryear.
Music
We are all familiar with the idea of the therapeutic power of music to evoke emotion and memories. It is still incredible to witness a client struggling with dementia knowing every single word to a song from their past. We have many moving stories about the transformative power of music.
Gardening
Time spent in a garden can be a wonderful and rewarding way to feed the soul. For some clients, creating a herb garden on a windowsill/balcony, planted at the perfect height for them, is an enriching creative pursuit and also a source of ingredients for home cooked dishes.
Exercise
As with all of us, physical exercise can provide a significant boost for mental as well as physical health. Your Mojo carer will actively find ways to help clients to move their bodies and exercise. Of course, this will often mean incorporating advice from doctors and other healthcare practitioners.
